Teachers deserve better conditions of service – GNAT
The Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Godwin Andam, has called for improved conditions of service for teachers in the country.
Speaking at the 2026 World Teachers Day celebration, Mr Andam expressed concern about the conditions of service of teachers, including the non-payment of what he described as the 13th-month bonus and other allowances.
The celebration was held under the theme, “Empowering Teachers, Architects of the Future.”
Mr Andam commended teachers for their contribution to national development and called on the government to fulfil its promises to the teaching profession.
The Assin Fosu Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Gariba Baba Adam, who represented the Central Regional Minister, assured teachers of government’s commitment to addressing their concerns.
He said government and teacher unions would work towards reviewing the conditions of service for teachers.
Alhaji Gariba Adam also appealed to teachers to return to the classrooms to ensure effective teaching and prevent disruptions to the academic calendar.
The celebration also featured awards for teachers who had distinguished themselves in their service.
Participants also took part in recreational activities, including football and volleyball, as part of the celebrations.
