11 dead in fatal crash at Amanase on Accra-Kumasi highway

A tragic road accident at Amanase, near Suhum in the Eastern Region, has claimed the lives of 11 people in the early hours of Monday morning.
The fatal collision occurred around 5:00 AM on the Accra-Kumasi Highway and involved a fuel tanker with registration number GR 1300-16 and a Sprinter bus registered GW 6510-23.
The Sprinter bus was reportedly en route to Kumasi when the incident happened.
According to eyewitnesses, the fuel tanker is suspected to have veered off its lane after the driver allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel.
The tanker crashed head-on into the oncoming Sprinter bus, resulting in the instant death of 11 passengers.
Confirming the incident, ADO1 Akonnor Opare Ohene Daniel, the Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service in Suhum Municipality, told Accra FM/CTV’s Apelete Kofi-Michel that emergency responders arrived at th harrowing scene, with multiple fatalities and numerous injured victims.
He stated that the injured passengers, some in critical condition, were rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have since launched investigations into the cause of the crash, while efforts are underway to inform the families of the victims and ensure survivors receive the necessary care.
