Energy Minister pays tribute to late Prof. Thomas Mba Akabzaa at final funeral rites
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition has paid glowing tribute to the late Prof. Thomas Mba Akabzaa, describing him as a mentor, father figure and an outstanding public servant whose contributions to Ghana’s energy sector remain invaluable.
The Minister joined family members, friends and sympathisers over the weekend at Bongo-Dua in the Upper East Region, the hometown of the late professor, to bid him a final farewell.
In a tribute at the funeral, the Minister recalled his long-standing relationship with Prof. Akabzaa, which began in 2013 when the late academic served as Chief Director of the then Ministry of Energy, while he was Deputy Minister.
He noted that their relationship went beyond official duties, describing Prof. Akabzaa as a trusted mentor whose guidance, wisdom and counsel significantly influenced his professional development and approach to public service.
The Minister highlighted Prof. Akabzaa’s exceptional intellectual depth, strong policy insight and distinguished service to the nation, particularly in the energy sector, where he played a key role in shaping reforms and advancing national energy policy.
He said Prof. Akabzaa’s legacy of excellence, dedication and mentorship would continue to inspire current and future leaders in the sector.
Prof. Thomas Mba Akabzaa was widely respected for his contributions to academia and public administration.
Mourners at the funeral praised his commitment to national development and his enduring impact on Ghana’s energy landscape.
He was laid to rest amid tributes celebrating a life of service and leadership.
