Government confirms passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang -Rawlings
The Government of Ghana has announced, with deep regret and profound sorrow, the passing of former First Lady and Founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, Her Excellency Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
According to an official statement issued by the Presidency, Mrs. Rawlings passed away on Thursday morning after a short illness.
Mrs. Rawlings, a pioneering advocate for women’s rights and empowerment, served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001 during the tenure of her late husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings.
Through the 31st December Women’s Movement, she played a pivotal role in advancing women’s participation in politics, entrepreneurship, and community development across the country.
The statement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, expressed the government’s deepest condolences to the immediate family of the late First Lady and acknowledged her enduring legacy of service to the nation.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
