Mahama visits victims of El-Wak Stadium stampede at 37 Military Hospital
President John Dramani Mahama arrived at the 37 Military Hospital on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, to visit the injured victims of the tragic stampede that occurred at the El-Wak Sports Stadium during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise.
The incident, which happened around 6:20 am, resulted in the deaths of six potential recruits, with many others sustaining various degrees of injuries.
The president's visit was a show of solidarity with the affected individuals and their families.
High-ranking officials of the Ghana Armed Forces, together with the Deputy Minister for Defence, Chief of Staff, Minister for Government Communications, accompanied him to the hospital.
GAF has expressed regret over the tragedy, extending condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing a swift recovery to those injured.
The authorities are investigating the incident to determine its cause and prevent future occurrences
