Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to tee off Millennium Excellence Week in Washington
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is expected to tee off the 2026 Millennium Excellence Week in Washington DC with the MEA Otumfuo Invitational at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia.
The event, organised by the Millennium Excellence Foundation, is being held in honour of the foundation’s patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Asantehene will strike the ceremonial first ball to commence play for a distinguished field of invited participants, setting the stage for a week focused on leadership, investment, partnerships and cultural celebration.
The Army Navy Country Club, established in 1924, has hosted prominent military leaders and five US presidents.
The invitational is expected to bring together Africa-focused investors, family office principals, founders, business leaders, diplomatic representatives, sponsors and partners.
According to the President of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, Nana Agyeman Prempeh, the decision to begin the week with a golf event is deliberate.
“We are opening the week on a golf course deliberately. Before the summits and the ceremonies, there is a morning where people walk the holes together and find what they have in common. That is how partnerships actually start.”
Among the featured participants playing alongside the Asantehene are Kodwo (Kojo) Mills, Founder and Managing Partner of Vibranium Capital Group; Olajuwon Ajanaku, Co-Founder of Eastside Golf; and David Lubotta, President and Managing Partner of DML Capital Partners.
Mr Mills is an Africa-focused investor who has generated more than $1 billion in investment returns across 25 years on the continent.
Olajuwon Ajanaku is helping expand access to golf through Eastside Golf, while David Lubotta leads a family office focused on investments in health and wellness, consumer brands, technology and real estate.
The golf invitational will set the stage for the other events lined up for Millennium Excellence Week 2026.
The programme includes a Royal Guest Lecture at Howard University on 25 August, followed by the Africa Business & Investment Summit at MGM National Harbor from 27 to 28 August.
The Millennium Excellence Awards ceremony and Gala Dinner will take place at the Warner Theatre and JW Marriott on 29 August.
The week will conclude with an Akwasidae Kesie Grand Durbar at Bowie State University on 30 August.
