Police Council recommends a two-year extension for IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno
Class 91.3 news sources within the government indicate that the Police Council has recommended a two-year contract extension for Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who was originally due for retirement in December 2025.
The proposed extension is aimed at ensuring continuity in the Ghana Police Service as it advances key reforms and strengthens national security operations.
According to the sources, the Council believes that maintaining Yohuno’s leadership will help sustain the momentum of progress achieved over the past year.
IGP Yohuno, appointed earlier in 2025, has been widely commended for boosting police visibility, improving rapid-response strategies, and expanding community-policing efforts nationwide.
His leadership has also been credited with enhancing public confidence in the service.
Class news understands that the recommendation is expected to receive the approval of President John Dramani Mahama by th close day.
If confirmed, the extension will allow IGP Yohuno to continue overseeing major security programmes, ongoing modernisation initiatives, and key personnel development reforms within the Ghana Police Service.
