Stampede at El-Wak Stadium leaves 6 dead, dozens hospitalised, GAF confirms
A tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium has resulted in six confirmed fatalities, according to an official statement from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The incident, which occurred during a crowded event, also left at least 17 people with severe injuries.
The GAF confirmed that five victims are currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while twelve others are in critical condition and receiving medical treatment.
The statement from the military provides the first official casualty figures from the disaster, underscoring the severity of the event.
The cause of the stampede is currently under investigation by the authorities.
The Ghana Armed Forces has expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and is coordinating with health facilities to ensure the injured receive the best possible care.
