Ghana Medical Trust Fund engages private specialist hospitals to expand access to advanced healthcare
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund has taken a major step towards expanding access to specialised healthcare for patients living with Non-Communicable Diseases, following high-level engagements with leading private and quasi-government specialist hospitals.
At a meeting held on Tuesday morning at the Fund’s Secretariat, the Chief Executive Officers of Euracare Spring Hospital, the University of Ghana Medical Centre, International Maritime Hospital Ghana Limited, and The Bank Hospital met with officials of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund to explore a new national partnership framework for specialised care delivery.
The Administrator of the Fund, Adwoa Obuobia Darko, on her part, described the engagement as a strategic working meeting rather than a courtesy call, noting that it represents the first concrete move towards integrating advanced private-sector medical capacity into a coordinated national healthcare response.
The proposed collaboration seeks to leverage existing specialised expertise and state-of-the-art medical equipment within these facilities to improve access to life-saving care for Ghanaians.
The initiative, she said, is aimed at reducing financial barriers that often prevent patients from accessing specialised treatment, particularly for Non-Communicable Diseases, and ensuring that critical care services available within the country are accessible to all who need them.
According to her, the emerging partnership is expected to shape the operational framework of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund for years to come, helping to close gaps in specialised healthcare delivery, raise standards, and promote equity in access to quality medical services nationwide.
