Greater Accra tops Ghana's HIV burden as over 337,000 people live with virus

Greater Accra recorded the highest number of people living with HIV in Ghana in 2025, followed by the Ashanti and Eastern regions, according to the Ghana AIDS Commission's latest National HIV Estimates.
The report estimates that 337,435 people are living with HIV nationwide this year.
Greater Accra leads with 77,512 people living with HIV, followed by Ashanti with 68,354 and Eastern with 42,704.
Meanwhile, Western North, Northern, Ahafo, Upper East, Upper West, Oti, Savannah and North East regions each recorded fewer than 10,000 people living with HIV.
The Ghana AIDS Commission said the figures underscore the need to intensify HIV prevention, testing and treatment efforts, particularly in high-burden regions.
