NHIA CEO praises Mahama government for completing Asamankese office
The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, has praised President John Dramani Mahama and his government for continuing the construction of a new NHIA office at Asamankese in the Lower West Akim Constituency of the Eastern Region.
The project was started by the previous government led by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo but was left unfinished before the change of government.
Speaking in an interview with Accra FM reporter Kofi Michelle Apelete during the commissioning of the ultra-modern NHIA office, Dr. Bampoe said the Mahama-led government had demonstrated its commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Ghana. He highlighted the introduction of Free Primary Health Care and financial support for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to ensure that Ghanaians can access quality healthcare without financial difficulties.
Dr Bampoe also mentioned the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Cares, as another initiative introduced to support patients suffering from serious illnesses who cannot afford their medical bills. He said the initiative was intended to ease the financial burden on such patients and improve access to medical treatment.
He added that the government would continue to work towards ensuring that Ghanaians receive quality healthcare, regardless of their location. He further announced that more projects would soon be commissioned in Fanteakwa, Jomoro and other areas.
The Chief of Asamankese, Osabarima Adu Darko II, also welcomed the new NHIA office, describing it as good news and a historic development for the town.
He said residents had faced difficulties because they previously had to travel long distances to register for or renew their NHIS cards. According to him, Asamankese is a major commercial and farming community with a large population, making easy access to health insurance services very important.
Osabarima Adu Darko II said the new office would bring relief to residents and make it easier for them to obtain their NHIS cards. He expressed gratitude to the government for the development, adding that access to health insurance was important because it helped people seek medical care when they fell sick. He noted that when the NHIS functions effectively, hospitals and patients also benefit.
The chief therefore appealed to the public to ensure that every family member obtained an NHIS card. He urged family heads and Abusuapanin of various clans to make health insurance a priority during family meetings instead of focusing only on funeral arrangements.
He described the NHIS card as a form of security for everyone, encouraging residents to take advantage of the scheme to protect themselves and their families.
