The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has issued a stern warning to directors and senior officials in the health sector, saying any attempt to alter approved postings will attract serious consequences including removal from office.

“If you change postings, you change your position as a director,” the minister cautioned during an engagement with the Bishops of the Catholic Church in Ghana.

He said the directive is part of government’s commitment to ensuring discipline, fairness, and strict adherence to administrative procedures in the deployment of health workers.

Mr Akandoh explained that government is prioritising the posting of health professionals to underserved regions and districts to guarantee equitable access to healthcare nationwide.

He also outlined key government interventions aimed at expanding access namely the Free Primary Healthcare Initiative, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCare)

On the Agenda 111 hospital projects, the Minister acknowledged funding constraints and delays that have left many facilities incomplete.

He said government is now focusing on completing 35 priority hospitals to make them operational for Ghanaians. 

To speed up delivery, Mr Akandoh invited faith-based organisations, particularly the Catholic Church, to partner with government on a non-profit basis to complete some facilities with government providing health professionals and operational support.

“We acknowledge the Catholic Church’s immense contribution to healthcare delivery in this country. We need that partnership now more than ever,” he said.

The President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi commended the Minister for his efforts and called for deeper collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Catholic health institutions across the country.

The meeting formed part of ongoing stakeholder consultations by the Ministry to strengthen partnerships and improve healthcare delivery nationwide.
