Nearly 2,000 residents of the Kpone Katamanso Constituency in the Greater Accra Region are expected to benefit from a free skills training programme aimed at helping them become economically self-reliant.

The initiative is being led by independent parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Bishop Abraham Aidoo.

The training is focused on equipping men and women with practical skills to support self-employment and entrepreneurship.

So far, the programme has reached communities including Apollonia and its surrounding areas, Oyibi, Zeenu and parts of Lebanon.

Residents from Gbetsile and Diamond City have also travelled to take part in the training.

Mr Aidoo said the initiative is intended to give residents access to practical skills without financial barriers.

“We cannot wait for government before we start building our lives,” he said.

He said empowering individuals would help strengthen families and communities.

“Develop the individual, and you strengthen the family. Strengthen the family, and you strengthen the community.
Strengthen the community, and you build a stronger constituency.”

Mr Aidoo said the skills programme is part of his broader vision of helping young people and women acquire skills to create sustainable livelihoods.

He said the initiative should complement government’s responsibility to provide infrastructure and public services, including roads, water, healthcare, education and sanitation.

“Don’t just give a person something today. Give that person the knowledge and skills to create opportunities tomorrow,” he said.

He described the approach as “development from the individual upward”, saying the free skills training forms a central part of his vision to “develop the individual, empower the community, and build Kpone Katamanso together.”
