Agric Minister pays courtesy call on Togbi Sri III during Volta Economic Forum
The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has paid a courtesy visit to Togbi Sri III, the Awoamefia and Overlord of the Anlo State, on the sidelines of the Volta Economic Forum held in the Volta Region.
The visit formed part of the Minister’s engagement with key traditional leaders in the region as the government intensifies efforts to improve food production and ensure national food security.
Mr Opoku said the purpose of his visit was to formally seek the blessings and support of His Majesty as the Ministry rolls out major agricultural initiatives across the Volta Region.
He revealed that President John Dramani Mahama has tasked him to ensure food availability throughout the country by strengthening the agriculture sector.
“I came to your palace to officially inform you of the government’s renewed agenda for the sector and to seek your blessing as we embark on transforming agriculture in this region.
The President is committed to ensuring that no Ghanaian lacks food, and the Volta Region will play a crucial role in that mission,” the Minister stated.
Togbi Sri III expressed gratitude for the visit, describing it as an honour and a positive step towards strengthening collaboration between the government and the traditional authority in Anlo.
“I am very happy because you have honoured me. In fact, the Minister visiting me is a blessing. Although we have not had any close engagement before, your taking the trouble to come to my home shows great respect. We are grateful and look forward to more personal discussions,” the Awoamefia said.
The Volta Economic Forum is part of the government’s broader agenda to harness the region’s economic potential, with a strong focus on agriculture as a key driver of development.
