Ayikoi Otoo questions credibility of Mahama’s 120-day social contract

Former Attorney General and Minister for Justice Nii Ayikoi Otoo has expressed skepticism over President John Dramani Mahama’s widely publicised 120-day social contract with Ghanaians, describing it as a familiar election-season strategy aimed at securing votes.
Mr Otoo urged Ghanaians to approach such time-bound campaign promises with caution, suggesting they are often unrealistic and politically motivated.
He noted that while campaign pledges are a common feature of electoral seasons, those framed within strict timelines—such as Mahama’s 120-day commitment—should be viewed with a healthy dose of skepticism, given the complexities of governance and policy implementation.
“Ghanaians must learn to scrutinize these promises, especially ones that come with very specific deadlines,” Otoo said, warning that they often serve as tools to sway public opinion rather than concrete commitments.
He spoke on Asaase Radio’s The Forum on Saturday, April 19
