Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid denies OSP’s alleged GHS 100 million asset seizure claims
Lawyers for Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), have dismissed as false and misleading claims by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that assets valued at over GHS 100 million and allegedly linked to him have been seized.
In a press statement issued by HAY & Partners at Law, counsel for Dr. Abdul-Hamid emphasised that no assets or businesses belonging to or associated with their client have been identified, traced, or seized by the OSP.
“Our client owns no such assets, directly or indirectly, and no property worth the stated amount exists anywhere in connection with him,” the statement clarified.
The legal team further pointed out that the OSP’s own amended charge sheet, filed on October 17, 2025, lists five counts of alleged offences against Dr. Abdul-Hamid but makes no mention of any assets or businesses purportedly owned by him.
They argued that the accompanying statement of facts is also devoid of any reference to the alleged seized assets.
The statement described the OSP’s publication as “false, misleading, and injurious,” asserting that it distorts facts and undermines judicial integrity.
It urged the OSP to refrain from public commentary that misrepresents ongoing court proceedings.
Counsel also reminded the public that Dr. Abdul-Hamid has fully cooperated with the OSP since investigations began, attending every court sitting and honouring all invitations.
“It is deeply regrettable that instead of complying with court orders, the OSP has chosen to engage in public theatrics and false reportage,” the statement added, advising the OSP to focus on prosecutorial diligence rather than media sensationalism.
The lawyers concluded by reaffirming that Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid remains innocent until proven guilty, in line with the 1992 Constitution, and warned that misinformation could erode public trust in the judicial system.
