Former NDC Ayawaso East Chairman calls for unity ahead of by-election
The immediate past Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ayawaso East Constituency, Mohammed Ranme, has appealed to party members to remain calm and united following the recent primary to select the parliamentary candidate for the upcoming by-election.
Speaking to party supporters, Mr. Ranme emphasised that the primary were conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, and described calls for the annulment of the results as unfounded.
He stressed that delegates have already determined the party’s representative, and urged members not to be divided by ongoing controversies.
After losing the primary to Hon. Baba Jamal, Mr. Ranme — popularly known as Chairman Alebi in the constituency — joined Baba Jamal and other contestants to submit his nomination at the Electoral Commission’s regional office.
They were accompanied by the NDC Regional Secretary, Theo Tetteh Chai, to formally notify the Commission of the party’s intention to participate in the March 3, 2026, by-election.
The gesture highlights the former chairman’s commitment to prioritising the party’s interests over individual concerns.
He also expressed confidence that the NDC is fully prepared to face any political or independent candidate, noting that all aspirants are committed to working together to secure a decisive victory and demonstrate party unity in the constituency despite differences arising from the primary.
