Ghana need leaders who see public service as a calling, not a career-MP

Deputy Minority Chief Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib has delivered a powerful and reflective address, calling for a spiritual awakening among Ghana’s political leadership as a pathway to national transformation.
In his speech, Shaib drew inspiration from the biblical concept of being "born again," as spoken by Jesus, and likened it to the moral and ethical rebirth he believes is urgently needed in Ghana’s leadership.
He emphasised the importance of prayer, introspection, and a conscious detachment from narrow partisan interests, urging leaders across the political divide to place national development above personal gain.
“Ghana needs leaders who are guided by a deeper sense of morality and purpose—leaders who see public service as a calling, not a career,” Shaib stated.
He referenced key national figures, including former President John Dramani Mahama and the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, an example of a leader who should embody and promote this higher calling.
Shaib’s remarks come at a time when public concern over governance, accountability, and political polarisation continues to grow.
His call for spiritual renewal was framed as a necessary step toward healing divisions and restoring integrity in public service.
“Our country will only thrive when leadership reflects humility, truth, and a shared commitment to the well-being of all citizens,” he added.
The speech has sparked conversation about the role of faith, values, and ethics in governance, with many viewing it as a timely reminder of the deeper responsibilities that come with leadership.
