Ghana to host launch of ECOWAS 50th anniversary celebration

Ghana has been selected as the host country for the official launch of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) 50th anniversary celebrations, marking a significant milestone in regional integration and cooperation.
The grand launch is scheduled for April 22, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre, where President John Dramani Mahama is expected to officially commence the Golden Jubilee activities.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced that the event will include the unveiling of the official ECOWAS 50th anniversary logo, as well as the declaration of the theme for the year-long celebration.
In addition to the launch, Ghana will also host an extraordinary meeting of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers from April 22 to 23, 2025.
The meeting will bring together foreign ministers and key stakeholders from across the sub-region to deliberate on critical issues concerning the future of the bloc.
Mr. Ablakwa underscored Ghana’s commitment to regional unity and described the choice of Ghana as host for the launch as a recognition of the country's longstanding contributions to ECOWAS.
The 50th anniversary marks a pivotal moment for the regional body, offering an opportunity to reflect on its achievements, address existing challenges, and renew commitment to peace, economic integration, and development across West Africa, he concluded.
