'I am the right person to unite the party': Ashanti NDC Chairman seeks another term
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Augustus Nana Kwasi Andrews, has officially picked up nomination forms to contest for re-election, pledging to build on his track record of growing the party’s parliamentary presence and securing victory in the 2028 general elections.
Addressing the media after obtaining his forms, Nana Kwasi highlighted his tenure's achievements, noting that under his decentralised leadership, the party’s parliamentary representation in the Ashanti Region grew from three seats to seven.
He added that the party now aims to expand its reach significantly across the region’s 47 constituencies.
"I took the party from three MPs. We added one, we added another three MPs, now we have seven MPs. Seven seats—it hasn't happened before," Nana Kwasi stated, highlighting, "Now we are moving to 35. I won't give exact numbers, but I can assure you that if God permits and I'm re-elected, we will see more, and the NDC will be attractive in this region."
Reflecting on his leadership approach, Nana Kwasi credited the progress to collective management rather than single-handed governance, emphasising that he allowed all regional and constituency executives to play active roles.
He cited notable institutional milestones under his stewardship, including the party’s organisational development in the region and the landmark election of Yaw Owusu Obimpeh to the Council of State as a testament to the party's growing influence.
Dismissing past allegations of internal party friction or compromised loyalty, the Regional Chairman expressed confidence in the delegate body, promising a clean, issue-based campaign devoid of personal attacks or post-election reconciliation conflicts.
Looking ahead to future national elections, Nana Kwasi underscored the need for experienced, unifying leadership to navigate complex political terrain.
"I bring respect, I bring experience, I bring love, and I bring togetherness," he said, adding, "We know the 2028 elections will not be easy. We need experience; we need someone who can bring the party together. I am the right person who can unite the party and secure victory for the NDC."
