Jean Mensa never promised 1-week release of revised PVR – EC tells NDC
The Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed claims made by the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it promised to release the revised Provisional Voter Register (PVR) within a week following the Inter-party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Tuesday, 1 October 2024.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 8 October 2024, the EC clarified that its Chairperson, Jean Mensa, was misquoted by the NDC regarding the timeline for the release of the register.
The EC explained that during the televised meeting, Mrs. Mensa never committed to a one-week deadline for providing the updated voter register.
Instead, she stated that the PVR would be made available within two weeks or sooner if possible.
"For the records, the Chairperson of the EC indicated during the televised IPAC meeting that the Commission would provide the political parties with the revised PVR and upload it online within two (2) weeks or earlier.
“Nowhere in her statement did the Chairperson indicate that the revised PVR would be made available within a week," the EC stressed in its response.
The EC’s statement directly challenges the NDC’s earlier claim that they had agreed to the Commission’s supposed promise of delivering the corrected register for scrutiny within one week.
The NDC had said: “The Functional Executive Committee of the NDC has deliberated and decided to accept the EC’s promise to release to political parties the corrected/updated version of the 2024 Provisional Voters Register for scrutiny within one week."
