NDC Constituency Election: Delegates invoke 'Antoa' deity over alleged album manipulation
Tension is brewing within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency of the Ashanti Region ahead of the party’s constituency elections following allegations of manipulation of the delegates’ album.
Some aggrieved delegates have accused individuals involved in the compilation of the album of allegedly removing the names of qualified delegates and replacing them with those of unqualified persons to favour certain candidates in the upcoming elections.
In an expression of their anger and frustration, some of the aggrieved delegates have reportedly invoked the Antoa deity, calling on it to deal with anyone found to be involved in the alleged manipulation.
According to Silver FM’s Akwadaa Nyame, the agitated delegates poured libation, slaughtered sheep, and called on “Antoa Nyamaa” and other river deities to strike dead those allegedly responsible for the act if they failed to correct the situation.
Speaking to the media, one of the aggrieved delegates expressed disappointment over the alleged development, insisting that they would not allow their efforts and sacrifices for the party to be undermined.
“We have suffered for this party, and we will not allow anyone to cheat us. We are calling on Antoa to strike anyone who has a hand in this album manipulation,” the delegate alleged.
The aggrieved delegates maintain that the alleged alterations, if not addressed, could undermine the credibility of the electoral process and create divisions among party members at the constituency level.
They have therefore called on the Ashanti Regional and national leadership of the NDC to urgently intervene, suspend the elections if necessary, and conduct a thorough audit of the delegates’ album to establish the facts.
They further insist that all qualified delegates must be given a fair opportunity to participate in the electoral process without intimidation, favouritism or deliberate exclusion.
The delegates have warned that failure to address their concerns before the elections could heighten tensions and threaten the peace, unity, and cohesion of the party in the constituency.
As the controversy unfolds, attention is now turning to the party’s leadership to investigate the allegations and take the necessary steps to ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
However, all efforts to obtain a response from the Atwima Kwanwoma constituency executives were unsuccessful.
