NDC accepts Kpandai court ruling, urges elections to reflect voters’ will
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has confirmed its acceptance of the Supreme Court ruling on the Kpandai parliamentary election rerun, despite expressing dissatisfaction with the outcome.
Speaking in an interview on Accra 100.5 FM, the party’s Deputy Director of Elections, Mahdi Jibril, emphasised that the NDC respects the court’s decision as a demonstration of commitment to the Rule of Law and democratic principles.
“While we may be unhappy about the outcome, we abide by the ruling because it reflects our respect for democratic institutions,” he said.
Mr. Jibril voiced concern over the growing trend of election outcomes being decided in courts rather than at the ballot box, stressing that elections should primarily reflect the will of the people.
“Elections must be determined by the voters, not prolonged legal proceedings,” he noted, adding that the party remains undeterred and continues to focus on constructive democratic engagement.
He also praised Ghana’s Judiciary for functioning independently and highlighted the role of President John Dramani Mahama’s governance in strengthening democratic norms and the Rule of Law.
The NDC Deputy Director assured supporters that the party remains committed to peaceful participation in democratic processes and will continue advocating for elections that accurately reflect the voice of Ghanaian citizens.
