NDC expels Umar Sanda for running as independent in Ayawaso East
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued an official letter stripping Mr. Umar Sanda of his party membership after he announced plans to contest the upcoming Ayawaso East Constituency by‑election as an independent candidate on 3rd March 2026.
The party’s National Secretariat, in a statement signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, states that Sanda’s decision to break party ranks and run against the NDC’s officially endorsed candidate directly violates the party’s constitution and its democratic processes.
According to the letter, the NDC’s constitution automatically triggers forfeiture of membership for any member who contests elections independently against the party’s endorsed nominee.
As a result, Sanda’s membership has been terminated with immediate effect.
