The Kpone-Katamanso Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nicholas Okoe Dagadu, says Benjamin Danso’s ability to unite party members, mobilise grassroots supporters and strengthen constituency structures could be crucial to improving the party’s electoral fortunes in the Greater Accra Region ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Mr. Dagadu made the remarks after filing nomination forms on behalf of Mr. Danso who is seeking to become the party’s next Greater Accra Regional Chairman.

Mr. Danso, who currently serves as the NDC Constituency Chairman for Krowor, is expected to contest the regional chairmanship position against the incumbent, Ashie-Moore, and another aspirant.

His supporters point to the party’s performance in Krowor during the December 2024 general elections where it reportedly secured a victory margin of more than 16,000 votes as part of the record they say demonstrates his leadership and mobilisation experience.

Speaking about Danso’s leadership qualities, Dagadu described him as a unifying figure capable of bringing the party members together, regardless of their differences.

“This is a man who stands for peace; he stands for unity. He stands for togetherness. He doesn’t go and leave anybody behind. This is a man who will carry everybody in Greater Accra along,” Dagadu said.

He expressed confidence that Danso’s approach to leadership could help the NDC consolidate its support across constituencies and increase its parliamentary representation in the region in 2028.

According to Dagadu, the party should be working towards winning all 34 parliamentary seats in Greater Accra compared with the 29 seats he cited as its current position.

He argued that achieving such a target would require more than political campaigning, stressing the importance of grassroots mobilisation, unity and adequate support for party structures.

Dagadu claimed that Danso played a significant role in the NDC’s 2024 election campaign by providing resources to constituencies and supporting women and youth organisers involved in mobilising voters for President John Dramani Mahama.

He maintained that such support demonstrated Danso’s appreciation of the role played by grassroots organisers in securing electoral victories.

The Kpone-Katamanso chairman also cited a health walk organised in Krowor as an example of Danso’s mobilisation abilities, saying the activity demonstrated his capacity to rally party supporters around a common objective.

Beyond mobilisation, Dagadu said Danso’s approach to internal party elections was aimed at promoting unity rather than division among constituency members.

He explained that Danso encouraged aspirants contesting constituency positions to concentrate on winning their respective elections before joining forces with the regional leadership to advance the party’s broader objectives.

“Chairman Danso says that he is supporting everybody who has the party at heart and the passion to run their constituency,” Mr. Dagadu stated.

He continued by recounting Danso’s message to constituency aspirants saying “go and win your constituency elections. When you win, come. Let us also help the region to move to the next level”.

Dagadu believes this approach could help minimise divisions associated with internal party contests and encourage defeated and victorious aspirants alike to work together after the elections.

He said constituency executives, branch executives, women organisers and youth organisers must coordinate their activities if the party is to achieve its electoral targets in Greater Accra.

According to him, the regional chairman must be able to bring these groups together and ensure that the party’s structures remain active and focused on a common purpose.

Dagadu further maintained that the NDC’s electoral strength in Greater Accra would depend on how effectively its leadership coordinates grassroots activities and sustains support across constituencies.

He expressed optimism that Danso’s experience as Krowor Constituency Chairman, coupled with his emphasis on unity, mobilisation and support for party structures, could contribute to the party’s preparations for the 2028 general elections.

As the contest for the Greater Accra Regional Chairmanship approaches, Danso’s supporters are presenting his constituency-level experience and mobilisation record as key elements of his bid to lead the party in the region.
