SONA: Serving as President is the greatest honour of my life-Akufo-Addo
Outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians for granting him the opportunity to serve as President over the past eight years, describing it as the greatest honour of his life.
Speaking during his final State of the Nation Address(SONA) to Parliament on Friday, January 3, 2025, President Akufo-Addo reflected on his administration's achievements and shared his vision of a self-reliant and progressive Ghana.
“It has always been my dream to help create a self-sufficient and forward-looking nation,” he said, highlighting the progress made during his tenure.
The President lauded the impact of the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme, which provided education for over five million students who otherwise might not have had the opportunity.
He emphasized the transformative role of the initiative in shaping Ghana’s future.
Additionally, President Akufo-Addo noted strides in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), citing the retooling of existing institutions and the establishment of 35 new ones to equip young people with essential skills.
Reflecting on the journey, he commended the collective effort of Ghanaians in driving the country forward and pledged to continue supporting Ghana's progress even after his presidency.
