Solomon Kusi Appiah, a member of the NPP Communications Team, has criticised the government’s strategy of lowering the dollar rate, calling it a “lazy man's approach” that fails to address the real economic challenges facing ordinary Ghanaians.

He made the remarks during an interview on  Ghana Yensom morning show on  Accra 100.5 FM on Thursday.

According to Appiah, some Ghanaians were hopeful that the NDC government would improve the country’s economic situation, but the measures currently being implemented are proving insufficient.

“Some people wanted the NPP because they believed the NDC would not deliver.

But now, what we are seeing—pumping money into the dollar market to stabilise the exchange rate—is a lazy approach. Money is being used to make the rate look stable, but it is not reaching the pockets of the ordinary people who need it for their daily lives,” he explained.

He further emphasised that this strategy does not tackle fundamental issues such as job creation, infrastructure development, and long-term economic growth.

“If you are given resources to build, and you fail to build, the work is not done.

Instead, the government is taking short-term measures that temporarily make people clap, while the real problems remain unresolved,” Appiah added.

The NPP communications member also called on the government to be transparent with citizens about the state of the economy.

“In the President’s upcoming State of the Nation Address, Ghanaians deserve honesty.

If there have been missteps, the government should acknowledge them and assure the public that corrective actions are underway to improve the country,” he said.
