There should be a consequence for Naa Koryoo’s lies against Hawa Koomson – Akosua Manu insists
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Adentan and aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Akosua Manu, has called for accountability from the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Naa Koryoo, over what she described as false allegations against former MP and former Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hawa Koomson.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Friday, November 7, Kozie stated that there must be consequences for the claims made by Naa Koryoo, who had accused Hawa Koomson of shooting at her and killing two of her supporters.
She argued that such serious allegations could not be ignored, especially after new information from the Ministry of the Interior contradicted them.
The Interior Minister, in a recent update to Parliament on incidents of electoral violence during the 2020 and 2024 elections, disclosed that Naa Koryoo had spoken to the Election Security Task Force and denied that the alleged attack ever happened.
The revelation directly undermined her earlier public claims that sought to implicate Hawa Koomson in the violence.
Akosua Manu emphasised that spreading false accusations for political gain erodes public trust and damages the integrity of Ghana’s democratic process.
She maintained that public office holders must be guided by truth and responsibility, especially when making statements that can affect others’ reputations.
“The Interior Minister’s update has made the facts clear. You cannot malign another person, especially a woman leader like Hawa Koomson, with lies and walk away without consequence,” Kozie asserted.
Akosua Manu, who also serves as a key campaign aide to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, urged the relevant authorities to ensure that such acts of misinformation are met with appropriate sanctions to safeguard the credibility of public discourse.
