Weija-Gbawe MP requests release of DRIP machinery to fix deplorable roads
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Weija-Gbawe Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has written to the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly requesting the release of the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) machinery to help address the poor road conditions across the municipality.
In a letter dated 28th October 2025, the MP stated that during his recent community engagements, several residents had expressed frustration over the deplorable state of roads in their areas, which continues to affect transportation and hinder local economic activities.
To address the situation, Mr. Shaib appealed to the Municipal Chief Executive for a partnership between his office and the Assembly to undertake grading and reshaping works in the most affected communities.
He pledged to provide fuel for the machinery to facilitate the smooth execution of the project.
The MP listed several roads earmarked for immediate improvement, including:
Ashbread inner roads
Kinshasa to St. Jude stretch
Faith Montessori to Dora Memorial Road
Oblogo bypass to Tetegu
SCC 06 Junction to SCC Taxi Rank
Gonse Park to Zero and Gonse Lorry Station to Joma
Sweet Mother Bridge (Glefe) to Wlaboman Station
McCarthy Hill Last Stop through Black Rasta to Giwah Clinic
Hill View to Top Base
Iron Rod Junction to the Top
Broadcasting Road to CAC
Sunny Coast Junction to the Top Road
Upper Weija Station to Water Works Training School Road
Winners Inner Roads
Weija Newtown to Djaman Junction, among others.
Mr. Shaib noted that improving these roads would significantly enhance accessibility, reduce travel time, and promote business activities in the affected communities.
He further expressed optimism that the Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with traditional authorities, Assembly members, and residents’ associations, would support the initiative to bring much-needed relief to residents.
The MP’s letter was copied to the Presiding Member, Hon. Assembly Members, Traditional Authorities, and Residents’ Association Chairpersons within the Weija-Gbawe Municipality.
