Media practitioners have been urged to enhance their emotional intelligence, build trustworthy professional relationships, and embrace artificial intelligence (AI) to remain relevant and credible in the fast-evolving media landscape.

The call was made by Consultant and Personal Development Expert, Mr. Percy Amoh Yankey, at a media engagement organised by the Ghana National Gas Company Limited (Ghana Gas).

The event, held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, brought together selected journalists from the Western and Greater Accra Regions. It was organised by the Corporate Affairs and Community Relations Department of Ghana Gas to deepen journalists' understanding of the company's operations, with a focus on health, safety, and environmental sustainability.

In his presentation, Mr. Yankey took participants through critical areas of personal and professional development. He noted that beyond technical reporting skills, today's journalist needs high emotional intelligence to manage pressure, handle criticism, resolve conflicts, and build lasting trust with sources and audiences.

He stressed that professional growth requires intentional self-development, continuous learning, and strong interpersonal skills.

Mr. Yankey further encouraged journalists to embrace AI as an enabler and not a threat. According to him, AI offers enormous opportunities for research, fact-checking, content production, and data-driven storytelling.

"I must caution you journalists  not to allow technology to replace critical thinking, ethics, and originality."

The engagement forms part of Ghana Gas's stakeholder engagement strategy aimed at fostering open, transparent, and mutually beneficial relationships with the media.

Participants described the session as practical, insightful, and timely, and commended Ghana Gas for the initiative.
