Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have been urged to complete the necessary registration and regulatory processes with Next Gen Infraco (NGIC) to ensure that subscribers across Ghana can access forthcoming 5G services.

The Chief Operating Officer of NGIC, Mr. Nenyi George Andah, made the call in an interview on the Class  91.3 FM's Morning Show on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, hosted by Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang.

NGIC has recently received regulatory clearance from the National Communications Authority (NCA) to facilitate wholesale 4G and 5G operations nationwide.

The approval positions the company to provide shared national infrastructure to mobile network operators and internet service providers, who will in turn deliver retail services to end users.

Mr. Andah emphasised that the mere availability of 5G infrastructure will not automatically translate into consumer access unless operators are properly connected and authorised to provide services over the NGIC platform.

“As we have switched on 5G, if the mobile network operators are not connected to us and offering the retail end of the service, then the subscribers will not be able to experience it,” he stated.

He disclosed that NGIC has signed network service agreements with Telecel Ghana and AT Ghana, while discussions with MTN Ghana are at an advanced stage.

In addition, six Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have signed onto the NGIC platform.

However, he stressed that commercial agreements must be complemented by regulatory approval.

According to him, operators are required to secure what is referred to as a “connecting entity licence” from the regulator before they can be technically integrated into the NGIC system.

“But it’s not just about signing on with us. When you sign on with us, you need to make sure you have what we call the connecting entity license or approval from the regulator.

So you sign on with us, the regulator gives you the license to connect to us, and then we plug you in, and then you launch your retail services,” Mr. Andah explained.

The development underscores the critical role of coordination between infrastructure providers, retail operators and the regulator in the country’s 5G ecosystem.

While NGIC has been cleared to facilitate the infrastructure backbone, the timeline for widespread consumer access will depend largely on how swiftly operators complete the required licensing and integration processes.

Industry observers say full operationalisation of 5G services is expected to strengthen Ghana’s digital infrastructure, enhance connectivity speeds and support innovation across key sectors of the economy.
