Abdul Latif Wunzalgu named Man of the Match despite Ghana’s penalty shootout loss to Uganda
Black Starlets winger Abdul Latif Wunzalgu was named Man of the Match following Ghana’s penalty shootout defeat to Uganda in the FIFA U17 World Cup qualification play-off at the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The winger was a central figure in Ghana’s attack throughout the match. He provided the assist for Ghana's opening goal, scored by Eric Adu Gyamfi, before Uganda equalised ahead of the halftime whistle.
After the break, Wunzalgu restored the Black Starlets’ lead by scoring Ghana’s second goal of the evening. Beyond his direct goal contributions, the forward consistently linked up with his teammates and troubled the Ugandan defense with his runs down the flank.
Uganda managed to draw level late in the game through a penalty kick, sending the match into a penalty shootout. Uganda ultimately defeated Ghana 8–7 in the shootout to secure qualification for the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
Despite the team's elimination, Wunzalgu’s individual performance earned him the official player of the match honors.
The Black Starlets will now focus on rebuilding ahead of their next tournament, with the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship scheduled for September.
