GFA president thanks Ghanaians after Black Stars' World Cup exit
The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has expressed gratitude to Ghanaians and supporters of the Black Stars following the team's exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement, Okraku thanked Ghanaians for their unwavering support throughout the tournament, where the Black Stars' campaign ended in the Round of 32.
He acknowledged the disappointment of the result but said the team could take pride in the courage and determination shown during the competition.
Okraku noted that many had questioned the team's ability to compete before the tournament but said the Black Stars defied expectations by progressing from a difficult group to reach the knockout stage.
He described football as a journey of both success and learning, adding that the technical team and players had gained valuable experience from the tournament that would help strengthen the national team for future competitions.
The GFA president also thanked the Government of Ghana, the association's sponsors and partners, as well as the head coach, players, technical team and support staff for their commitment and contributions throughout the campaign.
He further expressed appreciation to Ghanaians and supporters around the world, saying their encouragement gave the team the motivation to compete in every match.
Looking ahead, Okraku said the Football Association remains committed to building a stronger and more balanced Black Stars squad capable of competing successfully at future editions of the Africa Cup of Nations and on the global stage.
He urged Ghanaians not to dwell on the team's elimination but to unite in supporting efforts to build a stronger national team for the future.
Okraku concluded his message by praying for God's continued blessings on Ghana.
