GTA boss Maame Efua Houadjeto appointed LOC Chairperson for 2026 Africa Armwrestling Championship
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto (Mrs), has been named Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 2026 Africa Armwrestling Championship, marking another major milestone in Ghana’s growing sports tourism portfolio.
The announcement was made via an official statement published on the Ghana Tourism Authority’s Facebook page, signaling government and institutional backing for the continental championship, which is expected to attract athletes, officials, and fans from across Africa.
According to the statement, Mrs Houadjeto will lead a diverse and experienced LOC tasked with overseeing preparations and delivery of the championship, which will be hosted in Ghana.

In its Facebook post, the Ghana Tourism Authority expressed confidence in the committee’s capacity to deliver a successful event, concluding the statement with a strong message of intent and national pride: “Africa is coming. Accra is ready.”
The 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship is expected to boost sports development while driving tourism, hospitality, and global visibility for Ghana, particularly Accra, as a preferred destination for international competitions.
With leadership from the Ghana Tourism Authority and collaboration among key stakeholders, expectations are high that the event will set new benchmarks for sports event hosting on the continent.
