Ghana U-15 boys exit FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival after penalty defeat
Ghana’s National U-15 Boys team have been knocked out of the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Azerbaijan after losing 7-6 on penalties to Paraguay in the quarter-finals.
The quarter-final clash ended 2-2 in regulation time, with Ghana forcing the match into a shootout after a hard-fought encounter.
The team had won seven matches in a row before the defeat, including knockout-stage victories over Korea Republic and Mexico.
Ghana beat Korea Republic 2-1 before recording a 5-2 victory over Mexico.
However, the team could not hold their nerve in the shootout, with Paraguay converting seven penalties against Ghana’s six.
Ghana had topped Group W with a perfect record and scored 34 goals in eight matches at the FIFA Talent Development Scheme tournament.
Despite the quarter-final defeat, Ghana will remain in the competition for the ranking matches, where they will face the other quarter-final losers as one of the top eight teams.
The defeat brings an end to Ghana’s unbeaten run in the tournament but keeps the team involved in the competition as they compete for their final ranking.
