Kotoko say they had no plans to sack Zito despite inconsistent form
Asante Kotoko have made it clear that they had no plans to dismiss head coach Karim Zito, despite the team’s inconsistent performances in recent matches.
Zito resigned on Monday following Kotoko’s FA Cup exit, a 4-2 penalty shootout defeat to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Kotoko’s Communication Director, Sarfo Duku, speaking to Luv FM indicated the team's management was not surprised about Zito's decision, judging from recent trends.
“We were not surprised, because we knew that the coach wasn't happy with the performance of his team, and so it didn't come to us as a surprise at all,” he said.
Asked whether the club had considered sacking Zito, Duku emphasised: “No, we had no plan to do that.”
“We were to receive the details of what transpired in the course of the match. And then, of course, we have asked the necessary questions,” he explained.
Kotoko have won only once in their last five matches across all competitions, and focus now shifts to Sunday’s Super Clash against rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Meanwhile, Prince Yaw Owusu has been appointed interim coach in the wake of Zito's departure.
