Ghana lost 2–0 to Mexico in an international friendly in Puebla on Friday as both teams continued preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match allowed head coach Desmond Ofei to evaluate his squad and test new players before announcing the final World Cup roster.

Ghana started the match in a 4-4-2 formation with Benjamin Asare in goal, supported by a defense of Jan Kwasi Gyamerah, Nathaniel Adjei, Oscar Oppong, and Terry Yegbe.

The midfield featured Emmanuel Agyei, team captain Majeed Ashimeru, Ibrahim Osman, and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, while Daniel Agyei and Felix Afena-Gyan started upfront.

Mexico claimed an early lead when Brian Gutiérrez scored in the second minute. Ghana stabilized their performance as the half progressed, but Mexico maintained control to hold a 1–0 advantage at halftime.

Guillermo Martínez then scored in the 54th minute to double Mexico's lead.

Ofei made multiple tactical changes in the second half to alter the game. In the 66th minute, Prince Amoako, Jerry Afriyie, and Razak Simpson replaced Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, Daniel Agyei, and Felix Afena-Gyan.

Later in the half, Abdul Aziz Issah, Joseph Opoku, Salim Adams, and Solomon Agbasi took the places of Majeed Ashimeru, Ibrahim Osman, Emmanuel Agyei, and Benjamin Asare.

Although the adjustments provided Ghana with increased energy during the final minutes of the match, Mexico kept a clean sheet to secure the victory.

The friendly served as a preparation test for the upcoming tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Ghana will next play an international friendly against Wales in Cardiff on June 2, 2026.
