Agric Ministry announces farmgate prices for maize, rice and gari

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture, in collaboration with the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) has announced the minimum guaranteed farmgate prices for commodities such as Maize, Rice and Gari.
This was revealed in an immediate release dated 29th September, 2025.
1 bag (100kg) of Maize will be purchased by NAFCO at GHS 450.00, 1 bag (50kg) of Rice at GHS 625.00 and 1 bag (34kg) of Gari at GHS 340.00.
These prices were determined by the Producer Price Determination Committee (PPDC) during its maiden meeting held on 11th and 12th September 2025, following its successful inauguration.
"These guaranteed farmgate prices are part of the Government’s interventions to address the challenges of unsold surplus grains in the market", the statement said.
According to the ministry, the move is also to provide fair returns for farmers and ensure stability in the agricultural value chain.
They encouraged farmers not to sell their produce below these announced prices.
"Any farmer experiencing difficulties with buyers who attempt to purchase below the guaranteed prices should sell their stock directly to NAFCO, where they will be assured of the approved price," the statement added.
The Ministry assures all stakeholders that these measures are designed to safeguard farmer livelihoods, protect the integrity of the domestic grain market, and strengthen national food security.
