The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) says it is moving swiftly to introduce measures aimed at supporting cocoa farmers who are struggling with growing financial and production challenges.

Chief Executive Officer Dr Randy Abbey acknowledged that conditions in the sector have become increasingly difficult for producers and assured that the regulator is actively working on solutions to provide relief.

“We know these are very difficult times for the farmers and I can assure you, we are looking for solutions soon,” he stated, according to JoyNews.

Farmers across the country are facing a combination of rising input costs, climate-related threats and limited access to funding, factors that have put pressure on incomes and affected output in recent seasons.

Dr Abbey explained that COCOBOD is consulting with government and industry stakeholders to craft interventions that will improve the resilience of the sector and strengthen the support available to farmers.

While he did not outline specific timelines or measures, he emphasised that protecting farmer livelihoods remains central to the Board’s priorities.

Industry observers suggest that possible steps could include better financing arrangements, increased productivity programmes and broader policy reforms to stabilise the cocoa industry, which continues to play a key role in Ghana’s export earnings.

His remarks come as many cocoa growers call for stronger institutional backing to help them manage escalating costs and uncertainties within the global cocoa market.
