ECG warns against bushfires near electricity poles in Volta Region
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a strong warning to the public, particularly farmers and hunters, to desist from indiscriminate bush burning, as it poses a serious threat to electricity infrastructure in the Volta Region.
Speaking to Ho FM's news, the Volta and Oti Regional Public Relations Officer of ECG, Madam Eunice Tweneboah-Kodua, emphasized the need for public collaboration to curb the rising cases of bushfires near electricity poles.
She noted that the frequent fires have severely impacted the company’s power supply operations, making it difficult to ensure a stable electricity supply in affected areas.
Madam Tweneboah-Kodua highlighted some of the most affected communities, including:
Tanyigbe Etoe Adaklu Agortime Mafi Kumasi (Central Tongu)These areas have experienced serious damage to ECG poles and infrastructure due to bushfires.
She urged residents to be vigilant and report anyone found engaging in bush burning near ECG poles.
“The devastating consequences of these fires cannot be ignored,” she stressed, calling on community members to help safeguard electricity infrastructure by avoiding harmful practices.
The ECG is counting on the support of the public to ensure an uninterrupted power supply and protect critical electricity assets in the region.
