Ghana signs US$256 million bilateral debt restructuring agreement with UK

Ghana has signed a Bilateral Debt Restructuring agreement with the United Kingdom, covering about US$256 million, in a move that marks another significant step in the country’s ongoing debt restructuring programme.
The agreement was signed by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Africa, Mr. John Humphrey.
It represents the third such bilateral arrangement secured by Ghana, following earlier agreements with France and the Export-Import Bank of China.
As part of the deal, Ghana is also working with UK Export Finance (UKEF) to reinstate financing for several priority infrastructure projects. These include:
The Bolgatanga–Bawku–Pulimakom Road Project
Modernisation of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH)
Obetsebi-Lamptey Interchange and Ancillary Works Project (Phase II)
Construction of Phase I of the Tema–Aflao Road Project
Redevelopment and Modernisation of the Kumasi Central Market
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the UK High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Christian Rogg, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Patrick Nomo, and other senior officials.
