YEA boss unveils plan to create 2,000 jobs from coconut husk recycling

The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Mr. Malik Basintale, has announced an ambitious plan to generate 2,000 permanent jobs through the recycling of coconut husks, a common source of litter in many parts of the country.
Speaking on Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Basintale highlighted the untapped potential of coconut husks — the fibrous remains often discarded after the consumption of coconut water or juice — noting that they could be transformed into valuable raw materials for various industries.
“You see this here, they are called coconut husks! The leftover after enjoying your coconut milk or juice that litters the city.
This afternoon I shall be creating 2,000 permanent jobs from it while saving the environment,” he declared.
The initiative, according to YEA, will not only address growing environmental concerns associated with coconut waste but also open new avenues for sustainable employment, particularly for young people.
The project is expected to focus on processing coconut husks into products such as coir fibre for brushes, mats, mattresses, and eco-friendly packaging, as well as biomass fuel.
Mr. Basintale expressed confidence that the programme would serve as a model for turning waste into wealth, while also reducing unemployment and promoting environmental sustainability.
Further details on implementation are expected to be rolled out by the Agency in the coming weeks.
