GTA launches Chocolate Month Celebrations with public giveaways, educational excursion
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has officially kicked off this year’s Chocolate Month celebrations at the Nationalism Park in Accra, spreading excitement and sweetness among Ghanaians and members of the diaspora.
Marking the start of the annual festivities, the Authority shared chocolates with patrons at the park in a symbolic gesture of love and national pride, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of an early Valentine’s Day celebration.
In a social media post, the GTA said it was “spreading love by sharing chocolates with Ghanaians and the diaspora alike,” adding that “Valentine’s Day has arrived early this year [heart emojis]”

Chocolate Month, observed every February, is an initiative aimed at promoting the consumption of locally made chocolate and cocoa products while highlighting Ghana’s position as one of the world’s leading cocoa producers.
As part of activities marking the celebration, the GTA also organised an educational excursion for schoolchildren to deepen their understanding of the cocoa value chain.

In a separate post, the authority announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Maame Efua Houadjeto, led selected pupils from basic schools in Chorkor on a tour of Fairafric Ghana Limited, a cocoa-to-chocolate manufacturing company.
The visit offered the children firsthand insight into how cocoa is processed into finished chocolate products, while also exposing them to opportunities within Ghana’s growing agro-processing and tourism sectors.
Adding star power to the campaign, Highlife icon Kojo Antwi partnered with the GTA to spread awareness about cocoa and chocolate’s significance to Ghana’s culture and economy. The celebrated musician encouraged citizens and residents alike to indulge in chocolate and embrace its rich heritage, further energizing the month-long celebration.
Through public engagement, celebrity advocacy, and educational outreach, the GTA hopes Chocolate Month will not only encourage chocolate consumption but also foster appreciation for Ghana’s cocoa heritage and support local manufacturers.
