Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay has spoken publicly about the ongoing controversy involving a Russian man and some Ghanaian women, calling on the public to show empathy instead of harsh judgment.

Addressing her audience during a live performance, the singer paused her set to comment on the viral videos that have sparked widespread debate across social media platforms.

According to her, although she does not support the actions of the women involved, the backlash against them has become excessive.

She encouraged Ghanaians to reflect on deeper societal influences that may shape people’s perceptions and decisions.

Wendy Shay suggested that long-held beliefs—particularly the idea that foreigners are more valuable or superior—may have contributed to the situation.

She stressed that what happened could have involved anyone and should not be used to shame the women publicly.

“I am pleading with everyone to reduce the insults and remember that they are human beings,” she said.

“This is the time for us to unite and address the real issue.”

The singer further expressed concern that the incident may have been intended to portray African women in a negative light. She firmly rejected such narratives, emphasising that African women are not cheap or inferior.
