GA/R: Sowutuom chiefs call for probe into Homowo clashes

The Sowutuom Nsufa Mantse, Nii Osabu Acquaye, together with his elders, has appealed to the Ga Mantse, Nii Teiko Tsuru II, and the Ga Traditional Council to launch an investigation into the violent clashes that marred this year’s Homowo festival in Sowutuom.
The disturbances led to several casualties, including the death of Abubakar Ramadan Sarbah, popularly known as Nii Kwashiebu, a son of the community.
According to the Sowutuom Traditional Council, the violence could have been avoided had all parties adhered to a directive issued by the Ga Traditional Council on August 12, 2025.
The communique had instructed certain areas to refrain from sprinkling kpokpoi during the celebrations as a precautionary measure against unrest.
However, the council noted that some communities disregarded the directive, sparking the clashes that resulted in loss of life and injuries.
Areas specifically mentioned in the communique included Pokuase, Omanjor, Anahoma, Afiaman, and Oshuman.
Nii Sowutuom and his elders are demanding a thorough probe to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.
They have also called on the government to intervene swiftly, warning that failure to act decisively could escalate tensions and lead to further violence.
