Sikadwa displayed at Manhyia

The sacred Gold Stool known in the local parlance as sikadwa, believed to embody the spirit and soul of the Asante Kingdom, made a rare appearance on Sunday, May 12, 2024, during the grand durbar of chiefs and people of Asanteman, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Asantehene’s ascension to the throne.
This decision to display the Gold Stool publicly was a significant one, enhancing the grandeur of the anniversary celebration.
According to oral tradition, the Gold Stool was conjured from the skies by the revered fetish priest, Komfo Anokye, during the early years of the Asante Kingdom, approximately 400 years ago.
The event attracted esteemed dignitaries, including President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Bawumia, First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and Samira Bawumia, the wife of the Vice President, among other prominent Ghanaians.
Internationally, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Keith Rowley, and his wife extended their support to the Asante King by gracing the Manhyia Palace with their presence. Additionally, the representation of King Mohammed VI of Morocco added to the event's significance.
The presence of chiefs from South Africa, Nigeria, and other esteemed traditional leaders within the country further underscored the importance of the occasion.
Given the significance and sacredness of the Gold Stool, security was understandably heightened throughout the event to ensure its protection and safe display.
