A/R: 3 perish in fiery crash at Ahenkro on Offinso road
A fatal road crash at Ahenkro on the Offinso road in the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of three people, with another victim currently in critical condition.
The accident involved an articulated truck with registration number GR 1367-W, which was transporting heavy metals from Kumasi.
According to reports, the truck was travelling at high speed while climbing a hill near an intersection when the driver attempted to avoid an oncoming vehicle that had dangerously overtaken another car. In the process, the truck overturned.
A second vehicle, a car with registration number AS 6471-13 carrying thinner and travelling behind the truck, subsequently crashed into a bridge, overturned, and caught fire. Two occupants of the vehicle were burned to death instantly.
Speaking to Kumasi FM’s Elisha Adarkwah, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Director for Afigya Kwabre North, Kwame Yaro, confirmed that the driver of the articulated truck died at the scene.
He explained that the crash, which occurred around 7:30 PM on Monday, January 12, 2026, caused a complete blockage of the road, resulting in severe traffic congestion.
Mr Yaro expressed concern over the increasing number of accidents on the stretch, noting that two separate crashes within a week had claimed 9 lives. He attributed the recurring incidents largely to overspeeding by heavy-duty trucks and called for practical and urgent measures to curb such preventable accidents.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service (GPS), Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), and NADMO are currently at the scene working to clear the road and restore traffic flow.
The injured partner of the truck driver has been rushed to St. Patrick’s Hospital in Offinso for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
