Alban Bagbin revisits vision for new Parliament facility, announces electronic voting pilot
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, says a formal request has been submitted to the Executive for a parcel of land to construct a new facility to accommodate the evolving needs of the House.
He explained that the current space has several limitations that hinder the effective delivery of Parliament’s mandate, stressing that the legislature cannot continue to rely on rented facilities for its operations.
Mr Bagbin also disclosed that Parliament will introduce an electronic voting system, which will soon be piloted to help streamline decision-making on the floor.
He made the remarks at the launch of Parliament’s five-year corporate strategic plan.
In mid 2019, there was a massive protest online and on the streets of Accra which caused Speaker Bagbin to declare plans to build a new 450-seater parliamentary chamber valued at $200 million suspended.
