Asantehene arrives in Accra to present Bawku conflict mediation report to President Mahama
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has arrived in Accra to formally present a report on the mediation efforts aimed at resolving the protracted Bawku conflict to President John Dramani Mahama.
The report is the outcome of months of engagement and peace-building initiatives led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who was tasked with facilitating dialogue among the feuding factions in the conflict-prone Bawku area of the Upper East Region.
The mediation process involved extensive consultations with traditional authorities, opinion leaders, security agencies, and other key stakeholders.
Sources close to the process say the report captures the progress made, challenges encountered, and recommendations intended to support lasting peace and stability in the area.
The presentation to President Mahama is expected to guide the government’s next steps in addressing the conflict, which has claimed lives, displaced residents, and disrupted socio-economic activities over the years.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s role as chief mediator has been widely praised for its inclusive and traditional approach to conflict resolution, underscoring the importance of chieftaincy institutions in promoting national peace and cohesion.
Government officials are expected to study the report and work closely with all relevant stakeholders to implement its recommendations in the interest of restoring calm and sustainable development in Bawku and its environs.
