A native of Suhum and businessman, Mr. Kelvin Brown, popularly known as “Timeless”, has personally financed the construction of two bridges to replace a dangerous makeshift crossing that links Suhum Ali and Gorjiase in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The project, valued at an estimated GHC 300,000, is expected to provide safe passage for residents and farmers who have endured decades of hardship using what locals described as a “death trap” bridge.

At a sod-cutting ceremony, Mr. Brown—accompanied by the Assemblyman for Gorjiase Electoral Area, Mr. Frank Danso, and Suhum Ali Odikro, Baffour Tetteh Coffee III—explained his motivation for the initiative.

Speaking to Accra FM/CTV News reporter Apelete Kofi-Michel, he said he had visited the area during the rainy season and personally witnessed the dangers faced by farmers and commuters.

His own experience navigating the route in his car, he added, reinforced the urgent need for a permanent solution.

“All the materials, including cement, iron rods, and stones, are already on-site, and engineers are ready to begin work,” Mr. Brown noted.

He explained that the bridges would be built with steel and concrete for durability, with the first phase accommodating pedestrians, motorbikes, and tricycles.

A second phase will later expand the bridges to support vehicular traffic.

Mr. Brown urged Ghanaians to contribute directly to national development rather than leaving every responsibility to the government.

“The government already has a heavy burden. If each of us supports where we can, the country will move forward faster,” he said, stressing that his decision was inspired by the suffering of the community.

Hon. Frank Danso, who also serves as Presiding Member of the Suhum Municipal Assembly, praised Mr. Brown for his “selfless and excellent decision.”

He acknowledged that the absence of reliable roads and bridges has long hindered Gorjiase and the surrounding communities and expressed satisfaction that work on the project was about to begin.

Adding his support, Suhum Ali Odikro, Baffour Tetteh Coffee III, also commended Mr. Brown for what he described as a timely intervention to improve lives and boost local economic activity.
